Top Ten!

EarthCam.com has featured us as a Top Ten Web Cam! What does this mean? It means that we get plenty of attention and that our advertisers are getting plenty of clicks. We only need a few more advertisers to get the project started. We are also the featured cam on Camville.com (this site has explicit content, unfortunately).

Everyone loves AquariumTV.org

I just received this email from one of our loyal viewers:

You got advertisers! I can hardly wait 'til the real aquarium is set up. My family and I are addicted to aquarium tv. It's all we watch!

H.S., El Cajon, CA

It's great to know that people are enjoying it. We have also secured 3 more advertisers. Be sure to show them some love. You must click on their link from our site for them to know that you went with them because they supported this project.

We are getting closer to being able to get this project started. We just need a few more advertisers.

First Advertiser

Today, EarthCam.com placed AquariumTV.org on their "New Cam" list and we have been getting tons of hits from throughout the world. We even got our first advertiser! Thank you, Notary.net for advertising with us. Please show your support by visiting our advertiser's websites. Only 21 more ads before we can get this project started. Tell everyone you know. We have a few surprises planned that no one has ever done before. We just need some money.

Nemo Came Out

Most of the time Nemo will just sit behind the rock, dreaming about a real reef tank. Today, he has moved out toward the camera. I think he is getting antsy. We need to show him what a real ocean is like. When you purchase an ad from us Nemo will get a new home and you will get something too: more web traffic. Everyone wins!

Welcome

This is the first official post to the AquariumTV Blog. This whole idea is relatively new...we came up with it only a few weeks ago. I secured the domain name and set up the site. I have spent the rest of my time trying to figure out this whole web cam thing. It seems that our only limitation is the up speed of the internet connection. It turns out that ISPs don't want you to host web sites, so they limit your uploading ability. For instance, at the office we have DSL at a down speed of 6mbps and an up speed of 500kbps (less than 10%). So, if we have more than one viewer at a time, it slows down drastically. Not to worry, we will find a solution.

Right now the tank that we are broadcasting is a nano tank with one clown fish. He stays pretty much in the same spot the whole time. He told us that he wants to have a bigger tank with lots of different hiding spaces and plenty of room to swim.

So, here is the plan...

We are building him a 180 gallon, built in the wall tank with a 40 gallon sump. He likes corals, so we are getting him a 72" Coralife light kit with blue LEDs to simulate moonlite. The tank will be viewable from three sides: Side1: Kitchen & Laundry Room, Side2: Dining Room, Side3: Front Entry Hall. He will have nothing but the best live rocks, coming straight out of the Gulf of Mexico, shipped in water, with plenty of hitchhikers and invertebrates. The problem is that the total bill for all this has come up to over $12,000. We rounded up to $16,000 to give a little cushion and for salt and other recurring costs (maybe a T1 line).

That is where the ads come in. We are selling 22 ads (12 for $500 and 10 for $1000). Each ad will be displayed for 5 years from the date of purchase. This is a great, long-term investment and it is a bargain for only $100-$200 a year. The only catch is that we cannot guarantee how many people will see the site. We can tell you that once it is done, there will be plenty of traffic and interest in this site. The best part is we will chronicle every step of the way with plenty of downloadable video clips and still pictures. Take a chance with us and you will not be disappointed.
